Exhibition Tour

The judging is over and the Best Shots’ finalists have been selected. Preparations for the Best Shots Exhibition and UK Tour are now taking place.

The fun begins with an eight-week summer exhibition for all 100 finalists held at The Station, in Richmond, North Yorkshire.

This award-winning facility has become one of the region's most popular attractions for food, film and free exhibitions of art and photography. In fact more than 350,000 visitors a year from all over the world enjoy this magnificent historic public space. The Station is open all day, every day.

All 100 finalists’ images will be exhibited and sold from The Station beginning on Sunday, July 14, 2013, with the last day of the Richmond run being Sunday, September 8th.

With the proceeds of Best Shots going towards the heritage charity responsible for the upkeep of The Station building, it seemed fitting to incorporate other national heritage properties into the exhibition tour, and this next leg of the journey will be open to all 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize-winning images from each of the 10 categories (30 in total). Few photographic competitions, if any, offer winners such widespread national exposure.

The tour begins in Scotland at the enchanting Kellie Castle near St Andrews. This National Trust visitor attraction dates back to the 1300s and has turrets and impressive stonework that have truly stood the test of time. The Castle is said to be haunted, but that clearly doesn’t deter enthusiastic ‘culture vultures’ who visit in their droves to see an original Arts and Crafts walled garden and the former studio of Scottish sculptor, Hew Lorimer; son of the famous architect Sir Robert Lorimer who once owned the property.

Then it’s down to Wales to the country’s oldest art gallery, Oriel Plas Glyn Y Weddw meaning ‘gallery in the valley of the widow’. This gothic Victorian mansion is on the beautiful Llyn Peninsula boasts an original Jacobean staircase and distant views of Snowdonia. It has a long association with art as it was built as a dower house to accommodate the private art collection of widower, Lady Elizabeth Love. It became a public gallery in 1896 and has an impressive 10 gallery areas, all of them light and airy.

The final 2013 staging post for the Best Shots national tour is the elegant Michelham Priory near Hailsham, East Sussex. The Priory is now an immaculate country house visited by thousands of heritage enthusiasts and garden lovers each year, but was once an important place of worship built by Augustinian canons 800 years ago and surrounded by England’s longest moat, still water-filled and fully operational.

A warm and welcoming exhibition space within the 18th century "Register House" in Northallerton, on the edge of the North York Moors, The Joe Cornish Gallery is the last stop of the Best Shots tour. Intimate spaces and a relaxing atmosphere provide a setting for the stunning landscape photography of Joe Cornish, our "tenant" photographers and selected work by artists, designers and craftspeople.
